Design Feedback

Cottam Hargrave Modern Home

I received a request from a reader to post up their plans for a modern home designed by Cottam Hargrave:

Cottam Hargrave is building a home for my wife and I in south Austin. Currently we are in the design phase. Jay has recommended reviewing the plans and model with friends for feedback. He has given me permission to blog them to increase my chances of different types of feedback. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I love the idea of sharing more things like this (hint hint to anyone out there who wants to have their home -  new or existing -  profiled on Modern Austin.

Click here for the Flickr set.  Be sure to check them out in large sizes (there is a button above each photo to see the big versions).  If you have feedback leave a comment below or email me.

Crestview Doors.

David of The Erwin House started a nifty little company specializing in:

Front doors for mid-century modern houses, 1950s ranch homes, ramblers, and new construction.

Great idea and welcome to anyone building new or wanting to touch up a remodel.

Architect Profile: Studio Momentum

Studio Momentum is an innovative architecture firm focused on incorporating sustainable design, cutting edge technologies and collaborative processes to achieve our goal: Great Architecture!

Through the use of the latest technology for architectural modeling, we can bring the client into the “virtual space” of their project. Building Information Modeling or “BIM” is the future of architectural design. The creation of a digital model can reveal and resolve problems prior to construction. Highly accurate photo real renderings allow the client to visualize the final product in exacting detail. This allows them to give appropriate feedback and become a larger part of the design process.

Architecture is not born in a vacuum. Studio Momentum believes in a collaborative process requiring communication between the client, builder, designer and community to produce meaningful work. We approach each project with open minds, technical skill and experience, and believe that together a true work of art can be realized.

Great Architecture is the goal. Collaboration, sustainability and modern technology are the way.

About designSTUDIO

We are a full service design office specializing in modern and prefab design with an emphasis on affordable sustainable design, materials and systems. We have a deep and abiding understanding of what makes something modern, realizing that modern isn’t a style but rather a way of inhabiting the world.

For us, materiality and process are as important as form. Our design strategy approaches form from a functionalist perspective, allowing form to arise out of the process of construction and the materials used. This strategy carries through the design of homes, entertainment venues, and other structures, to the furniture and built-ins designed for specific spaces. We also create graphic identities and environmental designs for the spaces and their surroundings.

(about picture)
courtHOUSE is a Structural Insulated Panel (SIP) house incorporating a classic modernist courtyard design. The impetus for this particular design was the 1963 vintage courtyard apartment the designer lives in. This coupled with an expressed interest from the market for a modestly sized living space led to the courtHOUSE design.

Architect Profile: KRDB

About KRDB

KRDB, a design-build corporation, was formed by Christopher Robertson and Chris Krager in 2001 with the intention of creating extraordinary buildings which are financially accessible. Our design-build approach is unorthodox in the discipline, as it is entrepreneurial; we have chosen to create opportunities rather than passively await them. Our first project, the Cedar Avenue houses, designed and built under the City of Austin’s S.M.A.R.T. Housing program, set the course for our practice. It is not uncommon to hear an architect lament the paltry number of buildings that are designed by members of our profession; we intend to act rather than protest. Both principals, with Masters degrees in Architecture from the University of Texas at Austin, have several years experience as project managers and designers. Projects range from small residential structures to large institutional buildings such as churches and community facilities. A thorough understanding of a client’s needs and desires is critical to the success of a project. We are confident in our abilities to assess a client’s needs and provide not only an optimal, but a poetic solution.
