August 15th was technically Modern Austin’s birthday. That was when we first installed wordpress and started building out the site. Today, I think, was the first proper post of for sale listing. I could be wrong though.
That first month we had less than 90 visits. Last month we had over 2700 unique visitors and over 25k page views. This month we are on track for even more.

Modern Austin kicked off in August. That first month we had 63 distinct visitors served and 2,400 page views and by December that grew to over 13,000 page views by nearly 1,000 distinct visitors .
Thanks to all of you for reading and for providing feedback, pointers and resources.
A couple of changes upcoming:
I am going to do a database clean up and move all homes that have been sold or under-contract to a ’sold’ section. I am going to keep them around for the time being as I think it is useful for those wanting to understand the historical marketplace and what options are out there.
I guess it is the time of year, but there doesn’t seem to be many modern homes listed right now. So I am going to try to fill in the gaps with some more photo sets.
I am also I am going to start writing some musings and updates about the housing market, both in general and specific to Austin.
If there is anything that you would like to see and think it would fit here, let me know.

For now, listings are self-gathered via flipping through the MLS, so it can’t be viewed as exhaustive. We are more than happy to take submissions. If you are listing your home, are a realtor, or just know of a modern for sale, drop us a note with the relevant info (MLS alone is generally enough unless you want additional info included), and we’ll be sure to add it. We reserve the right to determine what is ‘modern design’ and whether to list it. Not all “contemporary style” equals modern. We’ll try to be as liberial as possible in our definition.
We also may throw out the occasional possible remodel opportunities; houses that strike us as having some potential.
Given that all we have to go by often are small picitures, mistakes are bound to be made. Please feel free to bring these to our attention.
Our focus is largely on stand alone structures (single family/duplex) and we will not be listing condo projects unless something really special catches our eye.
We will only be passing along info and do not represent to know anything further about said listings unless otherwise noted. We will do our best to clean up the history and only have available, active listings.

The only real concept here is to raise awareness of the history of modern home design in Austin and to encourage continued development.
This will encompass:
- Features on exisiting homes including mid-century examples and contemporary. Ultimately we hope to create a map of all existing modern homes/areas and document as much possible as the history behind their creation.
- Interviews/features/listings for architects, designers, builders, developers, … basically anyone who is working to further good design locally.
- For Sales listings. One of the frustrating thing for those looking for modern design homes is wading through hundreds of listings that you have absolutely no interest in.
- Renovations. Both restoring modern examples and transforming traditional homes into modern dwellings.
- More as appropriate.
Modern Austin (or myself) does not have a financial interest in any for sale listing or business profiled. If at any point in the future this changes, it will be noted.
