Listing.
MLS Finder seems to be on the blink again with no new listings for the past 3 or 4 days. I am in the process of setting myself back up on another tool but if I missed anything, please pass it along.

I know I have written about Crestview Doors before but they have a new site up with much more info and examples of the great doors they offer. Check it out (and buy): Crestview Doors Website.
Last week I talked with a writer for the Statesman about what is mid-century modernism largely in context of the Erwins, their home, and the Crestview Doors business that grew out of it all. Right as we were starting our conversation, I had a minor emergency flare up at work so I hope my admiration for my fellow Grover Avenue neighbors came through the background of chaos. I tried to talk about MCM in the context of local history rather than more generic reference points. Not sure I totally succeeded there in providing a coherent back drop. Need to work on my talking points :-)
I am happy to report I own my first sofa since 2001. Hard to believe it has been so long. After less than fruitful combing of craigslist, my eye was caught by this Gus* Design sofa that is clearly inspired by classic Knoll Designs:

I acquired it from the very helpful people of IF+D. Go visit them and support the local design shops.
Through the IF+D site, I came across Fiesterra Studio and this incredible steel sculpture that invokes coral reefs:

This place belongs to an artist and architect husband and wife team. However, I totally forget the name. I met them a month back and then went back today to take pictures.
I absolutely love this place, in particular what they do with polygal. The sand in the channels is an inspired idea that provides a lovely visual texture to the building. This place is particularly dangerous for me as it really inspires me to want to build.
Update: I did some more looking around and this place was designed (and owned) by Elizabeth Alford and her husband Michael Young.
She teaches graduate and undergraduate architecture design studios, a seminar on prefabrication of houses, and is a faculty advisor for the UTSOA Solar Decathlon team. Her research focuses on the integration of sustainable technology into design.

The first two houses are in East Austin. The place being built is a KRDB place over near the Oakwood Cemetery the next one is a little back yard studio / duplex down off 2nd.
The bulk of the pictures are Mount Baker off Balcones. There are some great solid mid-century homes in what is ultimately a great area of town. Due to the great location, views, and such this area is also increasing very high-end and I think many homes will going under the buzz saw. This picture set is really only a sample of the area.
If you are not familiar with the area, here is where it is:

The last home is a Fehr and Granger or Emerson Fehr (or look a lot) a bit further north (Shadow Hills) that I snapped a picture as I was running an errand.
Please pardon the picture quality. They are not cropped and I really need to learn more about setting up pictures with all the light aspects at play.

People seem to like this place more than I given that I have had a couple emails about it. This picture shows off the MCM influence. It is nicely cared for all in all.

From Drew Marye:
Open Thursday, September the 20th, 12 pm - 2 pm. Come see this fabulous home before it hits MLS.
Vaulted ceilings in living room with big stone fireplace, stone floor entry, open kitchen, and retro baths! Bonus room (not in TCAD) measures around 200 sf. Two car carport with concrete roof (think future party deck). Huge corner lot (over 10,000 sf) and only a few blocks to Barton Springs pool. Don’t miss this one!

I vividly remember this house the first time I visited Barton Hills. I loved all the balconies, roof top deck, and outdoor space. Perhaps not classic modernism but nonetheless, a very livable home with a focus on bringing the outside in and that is “modernism” at its finest.
Around the corner from early Stenger homes (Arthur and Rundell homes).
Virtual Tour with lots of pictures.
Updated: and the price keeps dropping.
