Link to MLS as the Realtor site has a poor Javascript engine.
Perhaps it is just me, but I can see the windows and the virtical wood areas punched out and replaced with glass and polygal and the makings of a nice mcm home. Problem with this one is that someone already did a bunch of work inside and covered up the beams and certainly broke any mid-century modern feel with their ‘update’. Reeks of someone who is trying to flip the house.
Maybe not this one, but this type of house presents good opportunity for a mid-century modern feel home at a much lower entry point than you’ll find otherwise.

Very nice modern steel and glass home.
Near Lakeway. 1600+ square feet next to a greenbelt.

Mid-century modern details inside. Could use some work and updating.

I’ve been playing around with Google Sketch, a free 3D design tool. It is lots of fun to use it to design home layouts. Today I created an A. Quincy Jones / Eichler inspired atrium home. I didn’t get so detailed as to add things like kitchen and bath elements or fixtures though most of the interior walls and closets are blocked out.
The hardest part was getting used to some of the rules when I created the angled roof. I think I did it wrong as it broke the relationships of the anchors and so it took me some time to extend the walls and beams back where they needed to be.
I need to make or find a texture library for things like polygal (this model uses horizontal ‘mini-blind’ textures for the polygal sections), standing seam roof, among others.

If you want to play with the model yourself in SketchUp, here is the original file:
SketchUp model file.
For extra fun you can import models into Google Earth and see how it will look on that lot you covet.

Shed roof style hill home over in Westlake area. The current owners seemed to have opted for more the mountain home motif, but this easily could be brought around to more modern sensibilities.

1960 mid-century influenced style in Highland Hills area.
Note to Realtors: I’d like to the directly to your websites but if you use publishing tools like flash or poor defined java that don’t support deep linking, then it makes it hard to do so.
